If you have ever wondered about keeping bees or just wanted to learn about ways to get involved, join us for Intro to Beekeeping. We will go over the costs, logistics and initial knowledge needed to start your own hives, as well as the basics of honey bee biology and behavior. The class will focus on urban beekeeping but most information will easily crossover for suburban or rural beekeeping as well.
This class is a brief overview and primer for our full Beginner's Beekeeping Course. A great way to put your toe in the water before committing to the full course.
Due to the COVID19 outbreak, we are presenting all classes via video conferencing for the foreseeable future. Students will receive the video conferencing link as well as digital materials prior to the class. You must have a computer and internet connection to attend these virtual classes.
**Discounts are not available for classes.
Is there a minimum age requirement to attend?
No. This class is recommended for ages 13+, however, children are welcome as long as they do not disturb the other attendees. Please note that kids' ticket pricing is not available. All tickets are general admission.
What does a virtual event mean?
It means that we will be streaming this class online as an interactive virtual event. You can enjoy this class from the comfort of your own home. We use Zoom to stream classes and all students will need to install the Zoom app on their computer. Once you receive the class link, you will be prompted to download and install the app. It's a very easy process.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
By Car: Look for street parking in the vicinity of Greendesk (Northern Blvd and 35th St in LIC). We recommend using public transportation if possible.
By subway, take the N/W line to Queens and get off at 39th Ave Station. You can also take the M/R line to Queens and get off at 36th St Station.
By bus, take the Q101 bus to Northern Blvd and 35th St.
Why are some dates "tentative"?
This just means that the class date, time, and/or location may be adjusted. Once we have confirmed information, the date will no longer say "tentative". All classes will take place in Astoria or Long Island City unless otherwise noted. If you purchase a tentative ticket and we end up adjusting the date or time, you are entitled to a full refund if you cannot make it. We will not offer refunds based on a change in location. Please make sure you're able to travel to any location in Astoria or Long Island City before purchasing a ticket.
What do I need to bring to the event?
You're welcome to bring a notebook and writing utensil, however, we will provide an informational handout with the bullet points we cover in class.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
You can always drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions. We'd love to talk with you.
What's the refund policy?
Refunds are not available for this class. Please look over the description and contact us with any questions or concerns before you purchase your ticket. Don't take too long though, we expect this class to sell out.
If you purchase a ticket and cannot make it, you may transfer the ticket to another person. Please contact us with their information at least 24 hours before the class. Transfers will not be honored on the day of the event.
